1. Wisconsin Package Comand Line Interface


To use, you need an existing Unix account on pegasus!

a. Login to gene.montclair.edu (hopefully via ssh/putty, not telnet/rlogin, which are insecure). Use your pegasus username and password.

b. Type:   source /opt/bio/gcg/gcgstartup

c. Type:    gcg

You are all set to run GCG text-mode commands.


2. Wisconsin Package SeqLab GUI


To use SeqLab GUI, ssh/rlogin to gene.montclair.edu from an X-Windows-based Unix workstation (e.g., monster.something.edu) and do Step 1. above.

Then:

d. In a monster.something.edu window type:   /usr/openwin/bin/xhost +

e. In a gene.montclair.edu window type:   setenv DISPLAY monster.something.edu:0

f. Type:   seqlab &

A graphic window should open and you are all set to go.


3. SeqWeb HTTP Interface


To use a web-based interface to GCG, which is unrelated to Steps 1 and 2 above, do the following:

a. Apply for a SeqWeb account at the CS Department (you don't need Pegasus account).

b. From you Workstation/PC/Macintosh run Netscape or Internet Explorer.
Important!   It has to be Netscape 4.77 or IE 5.5 (5.0 on Macintosh) or SeqWeb will not run !!!

c. Enter the following address (or click this link):   http://gene.montclair.edu:1234/gcg-bin/seqweb.cgi

d. You will be asked for your SeqWeb username and password.
